It is getting warm outside! For most of us that live in the Tri-Cities, it’s the time of year that we wait for. But, even for those who love the high temperatures outside, keeping your house cool and comfortable is important. Now is the time to make sure that the filters have been changed and your Air Conditioning system is ready for the inevitable heat wave that summer in the Tri-Cities brings. Below is a list of a few things that you can do to help keep your house cool, which will keep your air conditioner from having to work too hard, and will lower your summer utility bills:

  • Keep your Thermostat clear of anything that generates heat. This may lead to inaccurate reading and may cause your Air Conditioner to work harder than it needs to.
  • Close the blinds or drapes to help keep the sun out. It will help to keep your house cooler.
  • Modify the settings on your Thermostat. It is less expensive to cool the house during the hours it is occupied, than all day when you’re away from home.
  • Keep your registers and vents clear of obstructions. This allows cool air to circulate throughout the house easier and means less work for your Air Conditioning unit.
